2027 Elections: ADC Declares Bid to Unseat APC in Yobe State and Nationally

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally declared its intention to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State and at the national level ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party says it is laying a solid organisational and political foundation to position itself as a viable alternative for voters seeking change.

The declaration was made by a former Minister of Police Affairs and ADC leader in Yobe State, Adamu Waziri, during the commissioning of newly established zonal and local government secretariats in Damaturu, Tarmuwa, and Bursari Local Government Areas. Party leaders described the move as a strategic step aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation and expanding the ADC’s presence across the state.

Strengthening Grassroots Structures in Yobe

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Waziri said the establishment of party secretariats across key local government areas was part of a broader strategy to deepen the ADC’s grassroots structures. According to him, the party is determined to build a strong base that will enable it to compete effectively against the APC in the coming elections.

He explained that the ADC has been intensifying internal preparations, including arrangements for a successful national convention and credible primary elections. These processes, he noted, are expected to further consolidate the party’s internal cohesion and readiness ahead of the 2027 polls.

Waziri told journalists that the party is committed to challenging what he described as the prevailing political order. He expressed confidence that sustained organisation and grassroots engagement would mark a turning point in Yobe State’s political landscape and beyond.

Focus on Youth Engagement and Policy Alternatives

The ADC leader emphasised that winning the confidence of the electorate, particularly young Nigerians, remains a central priority for the party. He said the ADC aims to present practical and realistic solutions to the country’s pressing social, economic, and governance challenges.

According to Waziri, the party is investing in outreach programmes, public engagement forums, and policy-focused discussions designed to connect with citizens at community level. He noted that these initiatives are intended to demonstrate that the ADC is not only an opposition platform, but a party with clear ideas and a reform-oriented agenda.

He added that the party’s message would focus on inclusion, accountability, and opportunities for young people, whom he described as critical stakeholders in Nigeria’s democratic future.

Membership Drive and Preparations for 2027

As part of its preparations, Waziri announced that the ADC will commence a nationwide membership registration and validation exercise within the next two weeks. He said the exercise would help strengthen the party’s internal database and ensure broader participation by members across the country.

The registration and validation process, he explained, will precede local government and state congresses, as well as the party’s non-elective national convention. These steps are aimed at promoting transparency and internal democracy within the party’s structures.

Waziri concluded by urging party members and supporters to remain committed and actively engaged, stressing that the ADC is prepared to take its message to all parts of Yobe State and across Nigeria as the 2027 elections draw closer.
